HTC One M8
The HTC One was one of the Taiwanese tech giant’s best cellphones to date. With a winning combination of great design and premium hardware, how does one top the HTC One? With the HTC One M8, of course!
- Great design
- Fantastic camera
- Expensive to buy contract free
- Sealed battery
HTC’s 2014 flagship is a great-looking phone as its chassis is 90% metal (a 20% upgrade from the HTC One) with a brushed back panel. This choice of material gives the device the premium feel it deserves and makes it one of the best-looking phones around. The HTC One M8 is available in three attractive shades: dark gray, silver and gold.
The display technology has undergone notable transformation in this latest addition to the HTC One family. The HTC One M8 features a larger, 5-inch screen with Full HD resolution, allowing for crisp text and more defined images.
The HTC One is more than a (very) pretty face; it is a hardworking device. Underneath its exterior, the phone is powered by the 2.3GHz edition of the Snapdragon 801 processor and is complemented with 3GB of RAM which makes it one of the most powerful cellphones of 2014. The One M8 sports a 2,600mAh battery. While this is not the largest battery capacity on the market, it can give you a full day of use and if you activate one of the power-saving modes you can extend the battery life to 2 days.
OS and User Interface
The cellphone runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and is overlaid with HTC’s intuitive user interface which has a number of extra tweaks and features. One of our favourite features is the tap to wake gesture: simply double tapping the screen you wake the screen or lock it.
BlinkFeed debuted on the HTC One in 2013 and was warmly received. However, Blinkfeed has received a welcome makeover and is now more powerful than ever. BlinkFeed is an aggregator which occupies one of the HTC One M8’s home screens and pulls in information from a range of media outlets and social media applications. The feed is highly customizable so you can tailor it perfectly to your interests.
The HTC One has a formidable camera which sets it apart from its rivals. The camera has a range of modes and functions including creative filters, panorama and Ufocus which allows you to choose what part of a photo to bring into focus either while shooting or after the shot has been captured. Unlike other cellphones on the market, the HTC One M8 uses UltraPixels which are twice as big as regular pixels, allowing more light to enter the frame – 300% more light in fact! This makes the HTC One M8 perfect for capturing photographs at night.
